PORT Macquarie’s best and fairest frocked up for Friday’s Fashions on the Field.
The 2008 Carlton Draught Port Macquarie Cup Carnival event saw fashionistas go hat-to-fascinator for this year’s competition.
More than 10 scouts had the hard task of hunting down 20 dashingly dressed required for each of the five fashion categories.
Port Central marketing manager Vicky Byram said she impressed with the effort made for 2008 and
it was “always a revelation” what people chose to wear”.
“Trend makers can say this and that is in, but everyone has their own unique flair,” she said.
She said retailers had been “frantic” for the four week lead-up to the 2008 Carlton Draught Port Macquarie Cup Carnival but the results had been well worth it.
“This year is the first year we’ve had a dress code and I’m glad,” Mrs Byram said.
“You can really notice an improvement, especially with the guys.”
Young racegoer winner was 28-year-old Darlene Sonter from Port Macquarie who went for a purple theme.
“Purple is the colour of the season,” the Funk’d employee said.
Jill Hatherly’s skirt and top combo saw named best dressed senior.
Did she expect to win?
“Oh, good God, no,” Mrs Hatherly said.
Best dressed male went to personal trainer Graeme Lawlor who wore a suit from Sydney and new sunglasses.
The 35-year-old said he was “very surprised” that he won but didn’t think the guys looked as good as they could on they day.
“Some of the guys here are wearing rubbish,” he said. “They could make a bit more of an effort.”
Donna Gillies and Sav Aristides were named best dressed couple.
Ms Gillies said she never expected to win, but just wanted to “look good” on the day.
Mr Aristides said he chose his outfit once his partner had chosen hers.
And the biggest award of the day off the track, most elegant lady, went for the second time to Julie Pentek.
“I always try and coordinate my outfit on the day and buy everything that I can locally,” she said.
